The Benefits of Music Education
Music plays an important role in the development of
children from the sounds of the first lullaby. It enters a child's
life from experience in the family, from the media, as part of religious
worship, in the school curriculum, and in play. In addition to its
enormous social value, research suggests that music is important
for intellectual development. Current research shows the following
benefits of music education:
- It has been shown to raise self-esteem and promote creativity.
- Studies show that high school band musicians score higher on college
preparatory exams.
- Learning to play a musical instrument helps students develop faster
physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
- Studying music improves students listening and concentration skills.
- Creative thinking skills are improved.
- Children learn concepts easier when music is part of the curriculum.
Band Fans Organization
The Band Fans Parent Organization is proud to present the 4th Annual
"Playing for the PRIDE" golf tournament to benefit the
Horizon High School "Pride Regiment" Marching Band. The
Band Fans Parent Organization is a 501-c-3 not for profit organization
that is dedicated to have music education positively influence the
lives of our children.
Recent federal, state and local budget reductions have dramatically
reduced the music programs in our schools. The Band Fans
seek to establish an annual event in which major fundraising can
be achieved to ensure that current, and future, students have the
resources and financial support to sustain the "PRIDE'S"
momentum!
Horizon Pride Regiment
Since its inception, over 2200 students have participated in and
have been recognized with ratings of Excellent and Superior for
their performance in competitions throughout the State and Southwest.
